City Officials

Your City Officials love Stanley, and are motivated by their opportunity to do their best for their community.  It takes personal sacrifice and many hours of service to be effective.  As you see them around town, a friendly word of appreciation would be warranted and welcome.

Mayor of Stanley

Herbert W. Mumford (Herb) is currently the owner and operator of the Valley Creek Lodge & RV Park.  Prior to his retirement in June 2004, he was Director of Engineering over 450 engineers as part of site-wide Technical Services at the INEEL now the INL.  He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University.  His career spanned 38 years with Bechtel Corp.  His work includes fossil and nuclear power plants in the USA, and nuclear power plants in Spain and the U.K.  As Manager of Engineering for the Latin America region he assured the successful completion of petrochemical projects in Argentina, power projects in Chile, and mining and metals projects in Chile, Peru, and Columbia, and obtained ISO9001 certification for engineering design in the Santiago Chile office.
Herb's engineering career combined such a variety of challenges and travel that he never doubted his choice of profession and continues to be enthusiastic about how engineering can serve to improve our quality of life.  Disocovering Stanley and an opportunity to live and work here in such beautiful surroundings is what led to his decision to retire early from his engineering career and take on new challenges.  Herb was elected Mayor of Stanley in November 2009 and sworn in to his new position in January 2010.
